The Ontario Science Center is at eleven (11) kilometers northeast on Don Mills Road, south of Eglington Avenue east, near the Don Valley Park. The design with three (3) main buildings and is connected by bridges and escalators, built at the side of the Don River rift. It was constructed in 1966, designed by Raymond Moriyama and opened in September 1969.
The center was an enormous attraction during the 1970s, due to its practical approach to science. Most science centers you only get to looked at the exhibits while in the OSC (abbreviation of the center) you can get interactive with the exhibits, many of these are live demonstrations such as metalworking. The famous Communication room has a number of displays that are computerized. The center has to be updated during the early 1980s; the number of tourists has dropped noticeably because some of the displays were obsolete, broken and depleted.
In 1996, the OMNIMAX theater of OSC was opened and had additional changes and updates of the center’s displays and facilities. Throughout the buildings the center has the interactive and stationary exhibits. They feature mostly in science and nature. In the front of the entrance, the center has a water fountain restored making it as its main attraction of the Exploration Plaza (Teluscape) but instead of water coming out of the fountain, air comes out and makes a sound. It is called the hydraulophone, visitors can play with the fountain. The entrance is also often used to demonstrate shows and exhibits
The Ontario Science Centre also has science school; the school offers certified grade 12 University Preparation course in physics, biology, chemistry and calculus. Any student who aspires to study in the center can apply and be selected to study a semester at the Ontario Science Center Science School. The school has only outmost twenty five (25) students in a class.
The tour hours are from 10:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon. Your hours may change and may change due to some events such as Halloween parties, where the center opens and closes late. This includes stargazing, story telling and also a children’s costume party.
